| Description: | OAI hosts OSGC Student Research Symposium
The 20th annual NASA/Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) Student Research Symposium was held at the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) on Friday, April 20, 2012, highlighting the research of this year’s 95 scholarship and fellowship awardees. The full day of festivities began with OSGC Director Dr. Gary L. Slater opening the session and as the keynote luncheon speaker.
Seven groups of Senior Scholars and Graduate Fellows delivered their research during two oral PowerPoint sessions. Students had the opportunity to entertain questions from the evaluators, campus representatives, and other attendees.
Junior, Community College, and Education Scholars presented their research during the morning poster session which was displayed in OAI’s main lobby, while fielding questions and discussing their research. Students presenting posters had the opportunity to compete for the “Best Poster Award” in each category level. The following student posters were selected as “Best Posters”:
1) Best Education Poster – Anna J. Gill, Senior, Marietta College, “Spectroscopy: Explorations with Light”
2) Best Community College Poster – Leah M. Oty, Sophomore, Columbus State Community College, “Green Roofing vs. Traditional Roofing”
3) Best Junior STEM Poster – Erkai L. Watson, Junior, Cedarville University, “Model Stirling Engine Manufacturing Project”
The day’s festivities concluded as students received Certificates of Recognition before heading back to their respective campuses after a very full day of Symposium proceedings. Thank you to everyone who participated to make this year’s event a success. We are very proud of all the students and the research contributions they are making.
